Remember that time a certain 3.5-year-old monster asked if everyone was OK and they …. were not at all?
Sometimes, life can be difficult – and Sesame Workshop wants to help your family practice positivity during those times.
New worksheets, videos, photos, and more are designed to help families remain positive and understand their emotions. Each resource features a character from Sesame Street, so kids (and parents) can work through their emotions with a friendly, furry face.
Yesterday, the Sesame Street posted a TikTok with Elmo, reminding TikTok users that it is important to sit, take a deep breath, and find a calm moment.
The official Sesame Street Instagram account also posted a photo of Grover underneath the statement “It’s Ok to Feel Anxious.” Within the past week, Sesame Street posted a drawing of Cookie Monster stating “You Are Doing the Best That You Can” and a drawing of Elmo alongside the text “Be the Kindness You Want to See”
Parents can show these graphics and videos to their little ones to let them know that even Sesame Street characters feel weird sometimes! Families can use the posts as a tool to teach their kids key lessons, like how a kind word can make a difference, that everyone is just trying their best, how it’s okay to take it one day at a time, and that you’re not alone when you feel overwhelmed.
Sesame Workshop also created a new worksheet for families to use when confusion, anger, or doubt becomes prominent. The Power of Positive printable worksheet lists five strategies — each one helps families remember to practice self-kindness, remain compassionate, and try to be positive.
Kids are reminded to celebrate their accomplishments, be their own cheerleaders, keep a growth mindset, notice their language, and try again. The printable features Sesame Street characters like Grover, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird, Rosita, and their parents. Families, educators, and other adults can download the sheet from sesameworkshop.org and print it in color or black and white.
While these social media posts and The Power of Positive worksheet are new, the company’s commitment to helping kids grow is not. You can find additional resources at sesameworkshop.org and the official Sesame Street social media accounts. As the worksheet says, remember, you matter!
