Kentrosaurus (Jurassic World Dino-Trackers, Captivz Build N’ Battle Dinos by ToyMonster)

Before we begin the review, I would like to thank the generous folks over at ToyMonster, for sending me a large selection of Captivz figures to share with the blog.

Today we’re looking at the Captivz Kentrosaurus…again. Yes, this is a figure that I already reviewed. It feels a bit odd basically reviewing the same figure twice and I briefly considered just adding pictures of this figure to the review of the other, but that won’t do. ToyMonster was generous enough to send it to me as a review sample so in my mind that justifies a revisit. Repaint reviews are not unheard of around here anyway, it’s just not usually from the same person that reviewed the other version! But this is a fantastic little figure, and I’m excited to feature it again.

Since this is a repaint of a previously reviewed figure I won’t get into accuracy or an in-depth look at the craftsmanship. You can go check out my other review, here, for a more thorough look. What I will repeat from that review is that this Kentrosaurus measures roughly 3.5” and stands 1.75” at its tallest point. The actual Kentrosaurus is estimated to have measured 13-15’ (4-4.5 meters) so that would put this figure at about 1/45 in scale.

This version of the Kentrosaurus is part of the Dino-Trackers line. The theme with this series is all about the biome the animal comes from, and their coloration reflects that. This Kentrosaurus is from the snowy/mountain biome so it’s gray and white. Even the slime is matched to the biome and in this case it’s “mountain ice slime” and an icy blue color. Although cards are included in some sets, this set comes with tokens instead. I greatly prefer the cards, which come with some cool artwork that you’ve probably noticed on previous Captivz reviews.

The figure is split between gray and white, right along the flanks. The plates and spikes are white with gray bases and coated in a metallic frosty looking sheen. Although I don’t think a snowy biome realistically suits Kentrosaurus I do like the biome matching theme of this series and the pale color set on this figure also helps make the details pop.

If you didn’t like the Kentrosaurus from the color changing series, then this Dino-Trackers one might be a welcome alternative. Personally, I’m happy to have them both. The Captivz Kentrosaurus is one of my absolute favorite Captivz figures and it’s a figure I don’t mind having duplicates of. Hopefully this is a sculpt they reuse in the future!
