Before we begin the review I would first like to thank the generous folks over at ToyMonster, for sending me a large selection of Captivz figures for me to share with the blog.
Altogether I have 6 Bumpy toys in my collection. Two Mattel action figures, 2 Captivz by ToyMonster, 1 plush by Mattel, and the Lego baby Bumpy. This is not a coincidence, I’m a fan of Bumpy. A Bumpy Bro, if you will. Hell, I like Bumpy more than the media she’s featured in! Especially baby Bumpy. Astute readers of my reviews may have noticed that baby Bumpy is in nearly all my Mattel mainline toy review comparison photos.
I’ve considered doing back-to-back reviews of all my unreviewed Bumpy toys but I figured it would be cruel to our readership. Don’t be surprised if you see another Bumpy on here in the future though. Today we’re looking at the Captivz adult Bumpy, part of the Jurassic World: Chaos Theory series. I believe it’s a completely new sculpt and it is a marked improvement over the JP3 style Captivz Ankylosaurus.
This is a perfect miniature replica of adult Bumpy, right down to her asymmetrical squamosal horns. She’s presented in a static pose with her tail swaying towards the right. No fine detail has gone amiss and close examination reveals intricately sculpted caputegulae (head armor) on top of her head, and four rows of keeled osteoderms running down her back. Sagging, wrinkled skin can be seen on her underside and each of her toes is clearly defined. This figure measures about 3.5″ (8.8 cm) which puts it in the 1/70 scale range.
Bumpy is painted turquoise along the back with a brown underside. The brown on the underside has a turquoise wash over it. The horns on her head, spikes along her flanks, and tail club are gray. Her eyes are yellow with black pupils. There’s no attempt to pick out the little osteoderms on her back but I wouldn’t expect there to be, that’s asking a bit too much! The paint job is otherwise faithful to the character and the application is excellent on this diminutive figure.
The Chaos Theory Captivz are currently available wherever Captivz are sold. This is a blind bag toy so if you want a guaranteed Bumpy, I suggest looking on eBay or online collector’s groups. Clearly I am of the opinion that you cannot have too many Bumpy toys in your collection, and this one is a worthy addition. The quality of these little toys continues to impress.
