Poet and activist Amanda Gorman will empower young readers again with her new book, Girls on the Rise!
Debuting on Jan. 7, the picture book from the #1 New York Times best-selling author showcases illustrations by Loveis Wise. It features a bold, original poem celebrating girls’ strength, resilience, and determination in all forms!
The book is a powerful reminder of how girls have shaped history and continue to march boldly into the future. Gorman’s verses, paired with Wise’s illustrations, deliver an inspiring message: strength isn’t about how girls look but about how they face fear and uplift one another.
This is Gorman’s return to children’s literature, following Change Sings and Something, Someday. She is the youngest presidential inaugural poet in U.S. history, having read “The Hill We Climb” at President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2021.
Readers might recognize Wise’s illustrations Magnolia Flower by Zora Neale Hurston and Ablaze with Color: A Story of Painter Alma Thomas, which earned a Coretta Scott King Honor Award. Wise’s illustrations in Girls on the Rise bring Gorman’s words to life, celebrating diversity and the boundless possibilities for girls everywhere!
Girls on the Rise will be available for purchase on Jan. 7. Until then, you can build your at-home library with selections from The Toy Insider’s Little Library series!
