Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, is collaborating with Multitude Films for the newest episodes of the Through Our Eyes docuseries. The two new episodes will premiere on public television stations starting May 1.
Through Our Eyes showcases the lives of American families through the viewpoint of children. The new episodes will tackle impactful themes such as racial identity, ethnicity, and culture, and follow the young people who are leading the fight against racism and taking steps to shape a positive future.
“Reclaim,” from Peabody Award winner Geeta Gandbhir and native Hawaiian filmmaker Justyn Ah Chong, follows the story of hula and its place in preserving Hawaiian culture. The other short film in the newest additions to the series, “Leading,” was directed by Peabody Award winner Grace Lee and showcases young activists. Gandbhir, Ah Chong, and Lee are all featured directors of Multitude Films.
The new episodes of Through Our Eyes will join the existing four, which have already captured audiences’ hearts, spotlighting kids’ perseverance in circumstances such as climate displacement, parental incarceration, and more. The previously released episode “Apart” earned an Emmy Award for Outstanding Short Documentary.
The new Through Our Eyes episodes are presented by The WNET Group and distributed by American Public Television. They will start premiering alongside the previous episodes tomorrow, May 1.
