Polestar, the Swedish electric car brand, is launching its 2024 Design contest with Mattel’s Hot Wheels. This year’s contest is open to designers who are looking to infuse their designs with imagination.
The winning design will be the first Hot Wheels x Polestar 1:64-scale, die-cast vehicle in the two brands’ collaboration. A shortlist of 20 finalists will be coached one-on-one by Polestar’s design team to refine their designs ahead of the final selection.
“Dreams have the power to inspire and transport us beyond what we thought possible,” says Maximilian Missoni, Polestar’s Head of Design. “This is a chance for all participating designers to really push that Polestar envelope and let their imagination run riot.”
“Both Polestar and Hot Wheels dedicate time, energy, and skill to ensure design is at the core of our vehicles,” says Ted Wu, Vice President and Global Head of Vehicle Design at Mattel. “The Hot Wheels design team has always challenged the conventional approach and the Polestar Design Contest allows the design community to showcase their skills and wow us with something we have never seen before, and we cannot wait to see the submissions.”
Polestar has been running its design contest since 2020. Top talent who have been highlighted in the contest have gone on to work for the Polestar Design team. Entries open on March 5, with a deadline of April 16. The winner of the Polestar Design Contest will be announced at the end of the year.
